WHAT IS SO MUCH FUN ABOUT HAVING AN END OF THE YEAR RECITAL FOR PIANO STUDENTS?
My students insist on having one! (This teacher could never get away with not having one.) Students begin asking months ahead of time, about exactly when it is, and what pieces they might play. But here in my studio, we call our end of year performance a “Musicale.” (We prefer not to use the word, "recital.")
Our Musicale, a popular event, is held at a nearby performance hall. It has a terrific Steinway grand piano, comfortable seating and nice acoustics, and is not far from the teaching studio. My students just love to play there every June. Young students fill up the first half, and after intermission, adult students take over. As one adult piano student quipped, "The first half of the program will be played without baggage. The second half will be played with baggage..."
Students, parents, family members and friends enjoy having a chance to hear what students have been working on in their piano studies all year. I ask students to choose and be able to perform their musicale pieces a month prior to the date. There is usually a great variety of music performed.
